I Drink Your Blood Remake

David Durston, writer/director of the ‘70s grindhouse classic I DRINK YOUR BLOOD has talked recently about the remake. The original flick is about a Mansonesque gang of psycho hippies who become infected with rabies, and go on an extremely gory killing spree. Following the Grindhouse Releasing DVD, overtures to redo it came in to Durston, who at first resisted. “I wasn’t thinking about a remake until these offers started coming through,” Durston says. “I turned all of them down, because their budgets were too small. I decided that if I DRINK YOUR BLOOD would be remade, it should be better than the original, so that people really had something to see if they went to see it again.” Durston eventually went back to the old script and updated it; the essential story remains pretty much intact, but eight new characters have been dropped in. “Naturally, that means there is more violence in the picture,” the filmmaker says, “and it’s a little more detailed. But everything in the original is still in this version, with a few more things added.” One concession to modern times involved modernizing the drugs: The gang is no longer tripping on LSD, but tweaking on crystal meth.
