[REC]

There's been quite a few POV style films released over the last year or so - Cloverfield,Diary Of The Dead,The Zombie Diaries and more recently Quarentine which is in fact the American remake of the film being looked at here,a Spanish gem called [REC].

A female reporter (Angela) and her cameraman (Pablo) are out recording a documentary about the firemen at a Barcelona firestation and what they do during a night shift. Not much happens until finally a call comes in:an old lady has locked herself in her appartment and the landlord can't get in.Angela and Pablo follow the crew and document what happens. When the door of the old ladies apartment is forced open she attacks them, leaving several of them injured. The firemen try to get the injured out to the local hospital but suddenly the exits are sealed and they are warned to stay inside the building.Whatever has infected the old lady seems to be contagious.

Once this film gets going its a rollercoaster ride of chills and suspense. The film is short at just 72 minutes plus the end credits, but in that time the directors squeeze in as many scares and jumpy moments as possible while at the same time keeping the audience captivated in all the carnage and mayhem thats going on.
The final minutes of the film are real edge of the seat stuff, ending with a final shot that will stay with you for a while afterwards.A sequel is soon to be released in Spain.
Here's the teaser trailer for the sequel...
