Repo! The Genetic Opera (Lionsgate/Twisted Pictures DVD)

Following a limited Stateside cinema release,Repo found its way to DVD back in January. Now i'm not a big fan of musicals, but i have to say i thoroughly enjoyed watching this!
It's like a fusion of Blade Runner and The Rocky Horror Picture Show and features a whole host of genre stars, some of which you probably thought you'd never get to see singing in a movie.
Shilo is a 17 year old girl who is suffering from a rare disease and so is holed up in her home by her overbearing father Nathan (played by Anthony Steward Head - known to genre fans for his role in TV's Buffy The Vampire Slayer).Unknown to Shilo, her father leads a double life - by day he is a mild mannered doctor caring for his daughter but at night he moonlights as a viscous Repo Man.

Repo is set in a future of urban decay, where organ failures are commonplace and extinction was near until Rotti Largo (played by Paul Sorvino) and his company Geneco - a biotech company specializing in organ replacements, came to the rescue. But this rescue has a price and for those who can't afford to make the repayments,a visit from a Repo Man is on the cards and he will claim back the companys property, which leads to a number of gory scenes showing the Repo Man at work.

Inbetween the juicy stuff there are a series of great songs that keep the film moving along at a great pace (my personal fav is Chase The Morning).Presented in a spotless widescreen transfer with a great range in its surround stage, this film merits more than just one viewing. No doubt it will soon be helmed a cult classic and i for one feel it deserves that title without question.
