Eden Lake (Dimension Extreme DVD)

Very few horror films these days leave you wondering about what you've just watched. But James Watkins directoral debut is one such film - It grabs you by the throat and tightens its grip through out the films running time and just when you feel the relief of that grip loosening, the films climax kicks you squarely in the nuts!!

Steve (Michael Fassender) and Jenny (Kelly Reilly) head off from their hectic London lifestyle for a romantic weekend away. They venture to a former quarry that Steve knew of from years before, which is soon to be redeveloped into a gated community called Eden Lake.Once there, they soon encounter a group of teens and their rottweiler.

After the teens loud music and off the lease dog become a nuisance Steve trys to reason with the gang, but he is met with a sarcastic and disrespectful response, which as the film unfolds leads into increasingly more violent encounters.

Now what makes this movie so disturbing is the actions of ''Just Kids!" It's not like the couple are being chased by a hockey mask wearing, machete waving killer - these are an unfortunate sign of the times, which although shown here to the extreme, never seems to be beyond the realms of possibility in this day and age.

The film is well paced and the tension and uneasiness builds as you doubt you'll see something to top what you've just seen - but believe me,you will!
Disturbing is'nt a word i use much when discussing a film, but this one will stay with you long after you reach for the remote and turn it off at the end!

The Dimension Extreme release gives Eden Lake a nicely detailed anamorphic widescreen presentation.
The audio track is Dolby Digital 5.1 and is an all around good track, with dialogue, sound effects, and the score nicely mixed together.

Xtras: Apart from trailers for Wolf Creek, Suburban Mayhem, Pulse 2, and Feast II: Sloppy Seconds, the only other extra is The Making of Eden Lake (4:07).
